On September 26-27, the Child Protection, Community Development, Higher Education, and Public Health Working Groups gathered in Arlington, VA, for SEE’s inaugural conference, “Building New Networks.” Each working group designed a project that they will carry out over the next year.
The Community Development Working Group's project will promote the development of small communities through utilizing existing assets to advance local entrepreneurial activity. The project seeks to increase the professionalism of capacity-building NGOs involved in local community development and also share experiences and exchange effective techniques in promoting entrepreneurship. The project partners will develop a training program for local leaders that focuses on fostering the growth of entrepreneurship in local communities. Project participants will conduct an intensive entrepreneurship training conference in Florida and attend the 2014 Global Entrepreneurship Congress in Moscow. The project will be implemented with participation of the Arkhangelsk Centre for Social Technologies “Garant,” the Siberian Civic Initiatives Support Center, Center GRANI, and the Coalition of Regions in Russia, as well as the WSOS Community Action Commission, the Rural Community Assistance Corporation, the Community Action Partnership, and the Center for Rural Entrepreneurship in the US.
